School of Engineering Programmes & Admissions

The following programmes are offered in the School through Regular, Part-time, Evening, and Weekend Modes:

Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc IT)

The goal of this programme is to prepare learners for senior-level information technology leadership positions in a wide range of organizational settings at the national and international level. The graduates will be prepared to cope with the increased demand, enhance innovativeness in problem solving and provide a contribution in addressing societal needs.

 

Specifically, this programme prepares future chief information officers, policy developers, researchers and solutions developers in the diverse areas of information technology. It focuses on applied computer techniques with emphasis on the needs of students from various backgrounds like Computer Science and Software Engineering who wish to build careers in the field of Information Technology. The programme finally opens the way for candidates who desire to develop further their knowledge in IT through PhD research.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Science in Information Technology:

  1. The candidate must be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree of at least Second Class Honors (Upper Division), in a computing field such as Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Cloud Computing of Machakos University or related programmes in computing, mathematics and engineering from institutions recognized by Machakos University Senate and the Commission for University Education (CUE).
  2. Candidates with at least a Second Class Honors (Lower Division) degree in any of the disciplines specified above must have at least two years of relevant work experience.
  • In addition, you must have had at least a C+ mean grade at KCSE or its equivalent.

Master of Science in Computer Science (MSc Computer Science)

There is a great demand for computer scientists with expertise in artificial intelligence, internet of things, cloud computing, distributed systems among others. Computer Science is a cross-cutting knowledge and skill that is required by most of the other career fields for enhanced productivity. Computer Scientists have a strategic role in our daily lives due to the increasing world reliance on sophisticated technology.

 

The goal of this programme is to prepare learners to provide innovative solutions to national and global computing needs to enable future development and growth of the society. The graduates will fill the high demand from industries across the globe for well-qualified computer scientists with specializations in areas ranging from Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, Image Processing, and Computer Security. Additionally, the program prepares graduates for further academic advancement, providing a strong foundation for those who wish to progress to a PhD, fostering a continuous path of academic and professional development.

 

Admission Requirements

HCNA Certification

HCNA Certification validates the knowledge and skills required for basic configuration and maintenance of small to medium-sized networks. The HCNA  curriculum includes, but is not limited to the following:

1.Network fundamentals

2. Basic connection methods of popular

3. Network Basics

4. Construction

5. Troubleshooting of common network faults

6. Installation and commissioning of Huawei routing and switching devices
