Our department offers two dynamic undergraduate programmes—Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and Information Technology—which are designed to respond to the growing demand for highly skilled engineers in industry and research. We are also excited to introduce the Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, scheduled to launch in September 2026, which will provide advanced training and research opportunities for professionals seeking to deepen their expertise.

Academic Programmes
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering offers industry-relevant academic programmes designed to produce competent engineers equipped with practical skills, analytical abilities, and professional competencies required in modern engineering practice.
Currently, the department offers two undergraduate programmes and is preparing to launch a postgraduate programme to expand opportunities for advanced research and specialization.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BSc EEE)
The Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in electrical power systems, electronic circuits, control systems, instrumentation, and emerging engineering technologies.
The programme integrates theoretical learning with extensive laboratory work, engineering projects, and industrial exposure. Students develop competencies in power generation and distribution, electronics design, embedded systems, signal processing, control engineering, and industrial automation.
Graduates are well prepared for careers in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, telecommunications, electronics design, research institutions, and technology-driven industries.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have obtained a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) with the following subject requirements:
- Mathematics: B
- Physics (or Physical Sciences): C+
- Chemistry (or Physical Sciences): C+
- English: C+
Applicants who studied the following subjects with C+ or above will have an added advantage:
- Geography
- Metal Work
- Power Mechanics
Alternative Entry Requirements
Candidates may also qualify through the following:
a) A principal pass in Physics and Mathematics in KACE with a subsidiary pass and at least a credit in Chemistry and Biology or Geography in KCE.
b) A Diploma (minimum pass) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate.
c) A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
d) Any other equivalent qualification approved by the University Senate.
Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication and Information Technology (BSc TIT)
The BSc in Telecommunication and Information Technology programme prepares students to design, develop, and manage modern communication systems and digital information networks.
The programme combines engineering principles with modern ICT technologies to address the growing demand for professionals in telecommunications, networking, and digital infrastructure development.
Students gain expertise in:

- Wireless and mobile networks

Admission Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the university minimum entry requirements and any of the following:
Option A
- KCSE mean grade C+ or above
- Mathematics: C+
- Physics: C+
- Chemistry: C+
Option B
- A Diploma with at least credit in Electronics and Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications
- In addition to KCSE with C+ in Physics and Mathematics.
Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (MSc EEE)
(Launching September 2026)
The department will launch the Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in September 2026 to provide advanced training and research opportunities in specialized areas of electrical engineering.
The programme will focus on areas such as:
- Power Systems Engineering
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Control and Automation Engineering
- Electronics and Microprocessor Engineering
- Electrical Machine Engineering
Admission Requirements
Eligible applicants must have:
a) A Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering, or Electronic and Computer Engineering with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from Machakos University or another recognized institution.
OR
b) A Second Class Honors (Lower Division) in the above fields with at least three years of relevant professional experience.

The department is equipped with modern laboratories and a world-class engineering workshop designed to support practical training and applied research.
