Building and Civil Engineering is a broad and exciting discipline which draws from various fields of science and technology to provide safe, sustainable, and economic solutions for the design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment where we live, work, and leisure.

The main objective of the Department of Building and Civil Engineering is to provide an academic environment where professional education can be pursued, scholarly research in science and technology can be conducted, and the interest of the public can be served through the advancement of knowledge.

In pursuit of this goal, the administration and staff join together to:

Provide a broad based, rigorous professional education in Civil Engineering at the undergraduate, diploma and certificate levels.
Serve the local community, citizens of the nation, and the people of the world.

The department offers a fully integrated Civil Engineering Program designed to equip learners with knowledge in all traditional branches of Civil Engineering such as structures, Highway and Transportation, Hydraulics, Water Systems and Infrastructure. The program is accredited by the Engineers Board of Kenya. The program undergoes rigorous continuous review to keep abreast with the best practices worldwide and respond to the emerging challenges.

The curriculum is delivered by highly qualified and experienced members of staff.  Learners are taught both theory and practical that are administered in the equipped laboratories and run by qualified Technicians. Further, learners are exposed to the real world of civil engineering through mandatory industrial attachments.

This is a professional engineering discipline responsible for research, planning, designing, executing and maintaining structural works that serve the general public.  The structural works include infrastructure such as bridges, railways, buildings, water systems, dams, canals, highways among others.
