What We Do
The department offers a fully integrated Civil Engineering Program designed to equip learners with knowledge in all traditional branches of Civil Engineering such as structures, Highway and Transportation, Hydraulics, Water Systems and Infrastructure. The program is accredited by the Engineers Board of Kenya. The program undergoes rigorous continuous review to keep abreast with the best practices worldwide and respond to the emerging challenges.
The curriculum is delivered by highly qualified and experienced members of staff. Learners are taught both theory and practical that are administered in the equipped laboratories and run by qualified Technicians. Further, learners are exposed to the real world of civil engineering through mandatory industrial attachments.
What is Civil Engineering?
This is a professional engineering discipline responsible for research, planning, designing, executing and maintaining structural works that serve the general public. The structural works include infrastructure such as bridges, railways, buildings, water systems, dams, canals, highways among others.
Qualifications
To qualify to study Bachelor of Science –Civil Engineering in Machakos University one MUST have attained KCSE Mean Grade C+ (Plus) with a minimum of B+(Plus) or equivalent in Mathematics and Physics and B(Plain) in Chemistry and English
OR
Mean Grade of C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of Credit pass in relevant field of study from a recognized institution.
What do Civil Engineers do?
They can specialize in any of the diverse aspects of the profession such as, research and development, construction, design, planning and management. Civil engineers work closely with other professions such as Architecture and Urban Planning, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Environmental Science among others depending on the nature of works.
